 L.I to see and understand the connection between the written code, the block codeand the flow chart.

This week fro tech we coded the dice on microbit in python which is a codning language. This is the comparison between, python, flowchart and blocks for making the microbit act lke a dice. The hadest code is python because even a small mistake will ruin the code and sometimes I can't understand what it is saying.

This week for tech we coded our microbits to send messages to another, to do this both mocrobits picked the same number between 1 and 255 so that the messages would be sent to the correct person. There were 3 different buttons that we could use to send messages and the message would be sent then the button was pressed.

Rock Paper Scissors

 L.I to learn how to code the microbit to play Rock Paper Scissors and understand how the flowchart matches the code.

This week for tech we played rock paper scissors on the microbit. FIrst we had to code the microbit which is on the DLO. Once you have downloaded the code you have to shake the microbit and it will choose a random number bwetween 1 and 3. I have to make a variable called handand set this to the random number.

If the number is 1 the microbit the symbol for paper. If the number is 2 the microbit will the symbol for rock. If the number is 3 the microbit will show the symbol for scissors.

Building an mBot

 L.I to understand how the mbot is put together so that I can fix it when something goes wrong

Today, we took an mbot apart and then reaassembled it. We then tested it with some codes to make sure that it worked correctly.

Tech reflection

This week for tech we started creating our joints for the foundation of our wood carving. To create the joint we had to chip the wood half way using a chisel and mallet, the joint had to be one wood thickness wide so that the other piece could fit in tightly.

 L.I to learn how to work with wood

This week with Mr. Grundy we chose what we were making and made the measurements for our joint so that our calculations would be accurate when we cut our piece of wood. The thing that chose to make was a helicopter.

This week we started our tech sessions at Tamaki Collage, this rotation the year 8's are doing wood carvings with Mr. Grundy. Through our sessions with him we are going to be making objects out of wood for example a helicopter, a shelf, a locomotive, etc... This week we learnt how to make a joint which is the foundation from where we are making our wood objects, we also brainstormed ideas for some of the things we could make.

 L.I to learn how leaves make food

This was our last tech session for the term. We learnt about how plants make their own food. To make their own food plants need leaves, they then need Water, Sunlight and Carbon Dioxide. Plants get water from rain. They get Carbon Dioxide from humans when we breathe out and plants take it in, and sunlight comes from the sun. Once these three ingredients are gathers plants can star making food,n this process is called photosynthesis which happens in the leaves.T

Science

L.I to Learn about science

From this term we moved on to a new tech rotation which was science, out teacher was Mrs' Sharma. This week our topic was being a scientist, this is where we learnt about the equipment in science like the measuring beaker, test tubes, Bunsen burner,etc. We got our own books to record our projects on. Since our topic was scientists we talked about what do you know about scientists, what do scientists do and have you ever thought about being a scientist. For our task we also asked a question about science, my question was how the sun was created.

Food technology

L.I to learn knife skills

This week for tech we moved on to food technology, Our teacher was Mrs. Heka. In this lesson we learnt knife skills and we made a colorful fruit salad. Our ingredients were grapes, gold and green kiwifruit, oranges and 1 cup of yogurt. For our preparation we cut the both ends of the kiwifruit's so it would stand up still, Then with our knives we took the skin off. After that we diced them into bite sizes. After the we did the same thing with the orange we did the same the, but we used the lines to cut the orange into segments. It was easy for them grapes because we just cut them into halves, lastly we mixed everything together and it was ready to eat.

     

Tech reflection

This week for tech we used mblock to make noise and change colour with our mbot. We also finished our flashing lights slide and moved on to our making sounds slide. We learnt how to make the mbot sing happy birthday.

Tech

oday at tech the year sevens did robotics, we learned about algorithm’s. Algorithms are a set of instructions. Our teacher for robotics is Ms. Ferguson. We had been given an Mbot which is a robot to give instructions to using our chromebooks.
