Celebrating the Summer Learning Journey

 L.I to celebrate our PBS SLJ participants

Today the people from the Summer learning Journey (Mrs. Grant and Ms Paleti) came to our school to give out certificates and prizes to the students who participated. I really enjoyed doing the activities that were set for us, participating the Summer Learning Journey has helped me to keep my learning going over the holidays. Congratulations to Sakshi for winning Top blogger in PBS, Top commenter, and top blogger for Manaiakalani.

Fishy false teeth

 LI: To create your own comic strip of an imaginary conversation.

My comic strip shows the conversation I imagine these two people had after one of the men had sneezed his teeth into the sea during a fishing trip. This activity was interesting because we had to think of what they were saying ourselves.

Kowhaiwhai pattern

LI: To create a kowhaiwhai pattern to represent summer

Today I learnt that when it is very hot and the air is shimmering Tānerore performs the haka for his mother, Hine-Raumati. This happens in summer as the land heats up. Our challenge was to think about this while we designed our own kowhaiwhai pattern to represent summer. My pattern shows a boat going out of the safe zone to fish and get food.

Insect art

 For this challenge we created insect art out of leaves, twigs, flowers and things that we could find on the ground. The insect I made was a beetle, I used a pear as the head and for the body and wings I used orange & green leaves.

Summer learning journey

Today we had the people from the summer learning journey program. They were to give our prizes for people that participated in the program And the winners. 66 people participated in the program, as our prize we got a certificate and chocolates.

For this activity we had to chose what our YouTube channel would be about if we had one. My channel would be about gaming videos like NBA2k, Pokemon games and Fifa. I chose gaming because I love to play sports and playing sports game would be really fun. I chose pokemon game because I love Pokemon in general.

My culture

For this activity I am talking about where I am from. Our family is originally from India. From 1879 to 1916 Indians were brought to Fiji to work on sugarcane plantations. That is when my great grandparents came to Fiji. My grandparents, parents and I are all born in Fiji and these people are called Fiji-Indians.

For this task we had to watch a tiny house video and and talk about weather or not we could life in a tiny house. I wouldn't live in a tiny house because of how small it is and. If I had visitors they could not stay in my house because it only had one bedroom. It is movable though but I still wouldn't one.

For this task I had to list five things I do to have good health and well being. Here are the five things I do to stay healthy and strong.

1. Get at least 10 hours of sleep.
2.  Eat fruits and vegetables.
3. Play sports.
