L.I to learn how to serve in volleyball

This week for Kiwi sport we learnt how to serve in volleyball. First we went over the last skill we learnt which was setting. After that our coach taught us how to do the under- arm serve and the over- arm serve. For the under- arm serve we had to keep the palm of our hand open and hold the ball with the other hand, then we threw the ball in the air and hit it with the other hand and hit it from the bottom. For the over- arm serve we had the same open palm just hitting from the top to the bottom, this the time our other hand with the ball was higher. This allowed us to hit the ball straight instead of hitting it up and for the ball to come back down again.

This was the second week of gymnastics. We started the with stretches, the ones that we did today were the L shape, the seal, the butterfly and the cat. This week we had three rotations., rotation 1 had the the backwards beam where we had to walk backwards and try to reach the end without falling. For the second obstacle we had to do a chart wheel over a box. The third and last obstacle was the bench forward roll where we had to roll forward on a bench.

Rotation 2 started off with the backwards roll, here we had to tuck out  head and knee to not get hurt. The second obstacle was the one leg hand stand where we had to do a hand stand on one leg. The third obstacle was the spring board jump into a 180 degree turn. The last obstacle was the trampoline jump into star shape, this obstacle was testing how high we could go.

Rotation three was the last rotation. To start it off it was the parallel bars, where we had to tuck out legs in. The second obstacle was the handstand against the wall on one leg. The third obstacle was the bar stand, where we had to use one bar to lift yourself up. The last obstacle was the back, side and front rotation.

My favorite obstacle was the backwards roll and my most challenging obstacle was the one leg hand stand.

This week for boxing we did punch combinations. First we got into partners, my partner was Oscar, we did rock, paper, Scissors to see who would do the combinations first [Oscar beat me so he went first] After that Pax set us a challenge to do in 30 seconds, she said to help your partner put on boxing gloves and sit down, then the other partner got two noodles so the partner with gloves could practice the punch combos. The first combo was jab, jab, cross, this we a easy one because we learnt it in our first session. The second combo was jab, cross, left hook and right hook, the third one was jab, cross and left hook. The last one was all the punches into one combo, jab, punch, left hook, right hook, left uppercut and right uppercut. this combo was really easy for me because you only need to remember the punches.

Boxing

L.I to learn about boxing.

Today we did our first session of boxing with our instructor Pax. First we went into the hall and Pax went over the three commandments, They were Respect, Discipline and Safety. Then we started our session with putting our gloves on and finding a partner, after that we learned the boxing stance the rock. We put one leg in front and the other at the back and bent our knees to have more grip on the ground also put both of our hand under our eyes and the elbow straight down to our stomach so we can protect it.

Soon after we learned the stance we learned two new punches the jab and cross. The jab is a straight punch with the hand that is in front. For the cross you punch with the hand furthest away and your body moves sideways except for you head and you front leg to generate more power. After learning those moves we combined it together and tested it with our partners softly.

Kiwi sport

Today we went to the court to do our kiwi sport with Hamish. First we played a game of
rippa rush but with no ball, this time the defending team only had to get the rips of the
running team. After that Hamish talked about how to defend when you don't have the
ball you could make a wall, it will be hard for the attacking team to break though. Then
we played a game of rippa rugby, this time we couldn’t pass the ball forward. There
were three teams. When my team was defending we made a wall.
